Mardi Gras Themed Christmas Tree Decorations

I had the pleasure of Decorating for the Southern Alumni Mardi Gras Gala.  It gave me the opportunity to venture outside my comfort zone and put all my resources to use.  After many hours searching the internet for ideas, I was able to find many of the mardi gras masks and beads at the local dollar store.  I have really been blessed to find items that can be transformed into beautiful creations at Dollar Tree and King Dollar.  The only problem is I sometimes buy too much because it is such a great bargain.

My trip to King Dollar secured 20 masks, that I stripped and re-painted.  I have this thing about leaving things in their original form.  It took time, but I re-designed each mask into a one-of-a-kind original.
My next dollar store find was wings.  I was able to take those cute little fairy wings and turn them into butterflies covered in peacock feathers, glitter and sequins, or cheetah print.
This is dollar store crafting gone wild!  I was shopping at King Dollar like a mad woman.  I bought at least 35 to 40 masks and 12 sets of butterfly wings.  I tried everything imaginable with feathers and I was pleasantly surprised at the results.  Just in case you hadn’t noticed, I am quite fond of peacocks.
I designed three trees and 2 topiaries.  I am particularly fond of the topiaries because they seemed to take on a personality of their own with the transformed mask and feather headpiece.
This was an exciting project that I look forward to expanding further.
